Knowledge Resource Centre (Central Library) Uttaranchal University has organized a three-day “National Workshop on Open-Source Software: DSpace and Koha" from 18– 20 January 2024. The workshop was inaugurated by Prof (Dr) Satbir Singh Sehgal, Vice-President, Uttaranchal University as a Chief Guest and other distinguished guest speakers. Dr Ramveer Tanwar, University Librarian and coordinator of the workshop welcomed all Dignitaries, Resource Persons, and all participants and briefed the participants about the workshop.
The prominent resource person Dr D P Tripathi shed light on the significance of DSpace and KOHA as open-source software in the context of library automation. A key component of the workshop was the hands-on session, enabling participants to actively engage with KOHA and DSpace, gaining practical insights into library automation and digital asset management. Another Speaker Dr A K Suman discussed the open-source software Koha, and DSpace, the implementation of RFID Automation in Libraries, selecting the right technology, and dispelling myths surrounding technology usage.
Over 50 participants, including students, research scholars, and Library professionals, participated in this event from both within and beyond the state i.e., Punjab, Chandigarh, Kurukshetra, and Uttarakhand. Their collective benefit from this workshop underscores the significance of such knowledge-sharing endeavours in the realm of library science and technology. The workshop was moderated by Mr Abhishek Pathak, Assistant Professor, USCS. The program was concluded with a formal vote of thanks proposed by Mr Arun Singh Thakur, Sr. Grade Librarian.
The valedictory session witnessed the auspicious presence Vice- Chancellor, Uttaranchal University, Prof (Dr) Dharam Buddhi as a Chief Guest and other dignitaries, Pro Vice- Chancellor, Prof (Dr) Rajesh Bahuguna Uttaranchal University, Dr D P Tripathi and Convener of National Workshop, Dr Ramveer Tanwar, University Librarian.
