The Department of Physics, School of Applied and Life Sciences (SALS) at Uttaranchal University organized a two-day National Workshop on "Analytical Approaches to Material Studies" from 21-22 November 2023. In the inaugural address, Prof (Dr) Ajay Singh, Dean SALS, emphasized the significance of exchanging ideas, experiences, and cutting-edge methodologies in the field of analytical approaches. Prof (Dr) B S Rawat, the convener, outlined the event's objectives and encouraged participants to actively engage in discussions, interact with esteemed speakers, and leverage networking opportunities for potential collaborations.

The workshop commenced with an insightful lecture by Dr Bhagya Tewari, Associate Professor of Applied Sciences and Humanities at Govind Ballabh Pant Institute of Engineering & Technology, Pauri Garhwal. Dr Tewari's lecture delved into the fundamentals and shared common interests in unravelling material mysteries at the microscopic and molecular levels, focusing particularly on Quantum dots. On the same day, the hands-on experiment session began with a demonstration of the XRD instrument at the R&I Department by Dr Sweta Singh, where a powder sample was thoroughly characterized across the full scanning range. Subsequently, Ms Ashima presented a demonstration of SEM/EDX characterization of the samples using the SEM machine. Dr N C Joshi provided demonstrations of FTIR, UV-Vis Spectrometer, and other available instruments.

On the second day, the workshop featured online mode lecture sessions by Dr B S Rawat, Dr N Kumar, and Dr P Rawat, covering topics such as Electrochemical Analysis of Materials, Thermal Analysis Techniques, Corrosion Analysis and Prevention, Biosensors and Materials, Smart Materials, and Responsive Polymers.

The workshop witnessed the active participation from a total of 24 attendees. During the valedictory function, Dr Pooja Rawat expressed gratitude on behalf of the Physics Department, School of Applied and Life Sciences, Uttaranchal University, and proposed the vote of thanks.
