A Workshop on: Self Defence Skills on International Day of the Girl Child

Women Cell of Uttaranchal Institute of Management, Uttaranchal University organized a workshop on: “Self Defence Skills” for girl students dated 11 October 2023 on International Day of the Girl Child at the UIM foyer. In alignment with this year’s International Day of the Girl Child theme, “Invest in Girls’ Rights: Our Leadership, Our Well-being”, the objective of this workshop was to provide young female students with the essential knowledge and abilities required to secure their safety and foster their empowerment. 


The speaker and trainer for the workshop was Mr S S Khan, President of Lions Force Brigade World Martial Arts Federation (India). The session began with a warm welcome by Ms Kajol Singh Khetri, President-Women cell-Student Committee, a student from the MBA 3rd semester at UIM, followed by a felicitation of Mr Khan by Prof (Dr) Pradeep Suri, Dean UIM and Dr Tilottama Singh, HoD UIM. 


Prof Suri initiated the session by highlighting the practical aspects of self-defense, emphasized on situational awareness and courage, inspired the audience, particularly female students, to take charge of their personal safety. Thereafter, Mr S S Khan underscored the importance of self-defense skills and conducted a dynamic demonstration, covering various self-defense techniques. The interactive workshop, involving audience participation, proved highly informative and contributed to empowering female students for a safer future.  


Vote of thanks was proposed by Dr Abhilasha Chauhan, Assistant Professor, Head Women Cell, UIM to the eminent speaker and his team, dignitaries, faculty members, staff & students. Dr Abhilasha Chauhan, along with fellow members of the Women Cell-UIM, including Dr Deepa Bisht, Assistant Professor, Ms Manleenjot Kaur, Assistant Professor and Ms. Sakshi Chamoli, Assistant Professor contributed to the successful conduction of the workshop. It marked a significant step towards empowering the female students and promoting a safer and more secure future.
