Celebration of World Physiotherapy Day

Uttaranchal College of Health Sciences, Uttaranchal University, Dehradun, celebrated World Physiotherapy Day on 8 September 2023. This year's theme, "Exercise with Arthritis," underscored the beneficial effects of exercise for people with arthritis in enhancing quality of life. 55 students pursuing BPT participated in the event. 

A light lamp lighting ceremony marked the beginning of the celebration. Following the introductory remarks, Shri Jitender Joshi, Chancellor, Uttaranchal University and Dr Satbir Sehgal, Vice-President addressed the budding physiotherapists and appreciated their role in transforming lives, honoring their profound impact in society as healers.  

 

The speaker for the event was Dr Tarang Srivastava, who enlightened students on indications and usage technique of ‘Basic Electro and Exercise Modalities, explaining their role in alleviating pain associated with arthritis and various health-related conditions. 

The students enthusiastically participated in the celebration which encompassed various activities, including plays, poster presentation, and speech, creating an engaging and informative environment. A play was creatively written and performed by physiotherapy students from BPT 1st Semester which depicted real-life scenarios where physiotherapy interventions played a crucial role in the recovery of individuals with diverse musculoskeletal and neurological conditions. 

A visually engaging poster presentation titled "Benefits of Physiotherapy" presented by Garvita Joshi, provided insights into the role of incorporating physiotherapy in day-to-day activities. A speech highlighting the evolving landscape of physiotherapy was delivered by Bushra Khan 

Following the formal program, Dr Tarang Srivastava gave practical demonstration regarding use of various modalities, allowing participants to engage with physiotherapy equipment. In conclusion, the Physiotherapy Day celebration proved to be an enlightening and engaging event.  

The event concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Mr Shashank Kumar. The event was coordinated by Mr Shashank Kumar and Ms Nidhi Sharma, faculty of Uttaranchal College of Health Sciences under the guidance of Dr Kartikey, Joint Registrar and Director UCHS.
