As the Government of India, the Ministry of Youth and Sports are celebrating Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav as a nationwide and people-led initiative to commemorate 75 years of India's independence and the glorious history of its people, culture and achievements, Uttaranchal University-National Service Scheme unit organized a programme on "Meri Maati Mera Desh" on the 9th of August 2023 under the aegis of the Government of India, in its campus "Meri Maati Mera Desh" programme is envisaged as a culminating event of "Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav". It involves paying tribute to the "Veers", who have made the supreme sacrifice for the country. The event was inaugurated by Shri Jitender Joshi, Chancellor,  Prof (Dr) Dharam Buddhi, Vice Chancellor,  Prof (Dr) Rajesh Bahuguna, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Prof (Dr) Ajay Singh, Dean, School of Applied & Life Sciences by lighting the lamp followed by University Kulgeet. All the present dignitaries expressed their heartfelt gratitude to all the brave hearts (Veer). Mrs Guddi Devi, wife of Late Ram Singh was honoured by the Chancellor. Nandini Arya and Raksha Rawat delivered a patriotic speech to remember and honour the martyrs. The event then proceeded with the people taking a solemn pledge covering "Panch Pran", affirming their commitment to the country. The pledge was as follows:
The dignitaries and the audience took the pledge and their pictures were clicked and uploaded to the dedicated website as a symbol of "jan bhagidaari". Prof Ajay Singh addressed the audience with his motivational words. Prof Rajesh Bahuguna gave an emotional speech in his own unique style. Prof Dharam Buddhi addressed the gathering and congratulated the NSS unit for the success of the event. Finally, the Chancellor of Uttaranchal University, Shri Jitender Joshi Ji took the initiative to address the families of the martyrs as well as the students.  At the end, all the dignitaries proceeded for the plantation drive in which 75 saplings were planted. The program was successfully organized by NSS Programme Officer Prof V K Srivastava and Dr Manoj Kumar Sharma with the support of NSS volunteers and Nandini Sharma, Govind Gautam, Prerna Negi, Palvasha Sharma, Raksha Rawat, Nandini Arya, Maneesha Negi, Priya Juyal.
