Law College Dehradun, faculty of Uttaranchal University organized a one day “Workshop for women on self-defense” on 1st March 2023 on the occasion of International Women’s Day 2023, under the aegis of Women Cell of Law College Dehradun. The Chief Guest of the workshop, Ms Rakshitha Gowda G M, the head coach of Uttarakhand state and the national kickboxing female coach of WAKO India, and one of the youngest coaches for International Olympic Committee-recognized games and a national coaching committee member of kickboxing sports (WAKO India Federation), Mr. Rajshekar G.M ,WAKO India technical committee member & Vice President of Uttarakhand kickboxing, and instructors Capt Balbir Singh Rawat (retd), lieutenant Yashwant Singh Rawat (retd), Mr.V.Veera Bharati - National championship medalist, presided the event. Hon’ble Executive Director of Student Affairs & IT Services Dr. Abhishek Joshi, the guest of honor for the day, Respected Pro VC & Dean Law College Dehradun Prof. Rajesh Bahuguna & Prof. Poonam Rawat, Head Law College Dehradun graced the occasion.


The workshop began with a cordial felicitation of the guests and lamp lighting ceremony, followed by a welcome note and the formal address of the gathering by Prof. Rajesh Bahuguna Pro Vice Chancellor and Dean Law College Dehradun. He in his address discoursed the importance of learning self-defense for girl students. The theme of International Women’s Day 2023 set by the UN is “DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality”. In align to this Women cell of LCD has come up with an event to embrace equity by empowering them through a training session on self-defense.


The event spotlighted the importance of protecting the rights of women and girls in physical space and empower them from gender-based violence. The training session by the experts provided insights on the basic techniques and proven tactics to help protect themselves from being a victim of crime. The workshop included advanced scenario training from the professionals in a safe adrenalized and supportive environment. Power of realization was demonstrated with important tips, moves to deter the attacker and the effective usage of body parts like knee, elbow and head that can be used to strongly defeat the attacker. The workshop was lively and spirited with the active participation of the students. The event concluded with the vote of thanks and National anthem and was well coordinated by the Chairperson of the Women Cell Dr. V.Bhuvaneswari, and the


faculty members Dr. Sandhya Verma & Dr. Shikha Gairola along with the student coordinators Drishti Garg and Vidhi Kumari.
