Women Cell, School of Agriculture, Uttaranchal University Dehradun, organized a 'Debate Competition' on 'Feminism - A Boon or a Bane' for SOA students on 1st March,2023 in Agriculture Block to celebrate 'International Women's Day' which is celebrated on 8th of March.
Dr. M.P. Singh, Dean School of agriculture (SOA), began the debate competition with the words of encouragement. The student coordinator of women cell, Ms. Sonakshi Rana started the debate competition by introducing the "Bane" and "Boon" teams and their members. She explained the rules and regulations of the debate competition and ended by giving a brief summary on feminism.Total 22 students took part in the debate competition, with 11 students from each of the teams "Bane and Boon." The first speaker was Rewati Raman Pandey from team Boon, who pointed out that feminism is about mental equality, not physiological equality. Shrishti from team Bane questioned in her speech why slapping a woman by a male is considered harassment but slapping a man by a woman is considered acceptable. Team Boon's Nandini argued that in low-income families, girls' education is not valued, while boys' achievement is prioritized. Finally all participants discussed their views, which made the debate competition extremely engaging for all SOA students. Dr. Neha Saini (Incharge - Women Cell, SOA) ended the debate competition by vote of thanks and expressing gratitude to all the participants, women cell members, faculty members and audience for their contributions to this event.
The debate was highly informative as well as interesting for all SOA students. Both,maleas well as female students equally participated in the debate Competition. Dr. NehaSaini (Incharge - Women Cell, SOA), Ms. Mansi Nautiyal and Dr. Rachna Juyal (Members of Women Cell, SOA), Mr. Sunil Prakash and Dr. Rajat Singh (Competition Judges) were present during the Debate competition and provided their support effectively in organizing the debate competition.
