The Uttaranchal Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS), Uttaranchal University, organized an outreach awareness programme on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) on 13 October 2026 at Kotra Santaur Village, Dehradun. The programme aimed to educate the local community about the responsible use of antibiotics, the causes of antimicrobial resistance, and the consequences of antibiotic misuse and overuse.
During the programme, students from D. Pharm and B. Pharm interacted with villagers and explained how inappropriate antibiotic use contributes to antimicrobial resistance, making infections increasingly difficult to treat. The community was encouraged to avoid self-medication, take antibiotics only under the guidance of qualified healthcare professionals, follow prescribed dosages and treatment durations, and refrain from unnecessary antibiotic use.
The students communicated essential pharmaceutical knowledge in simple and accessible language, promoting rational medicine use and responsible healthcare practices. The activity also provided valuable practical exposure to community pharmacy, health education, and public awareness, while enhancing students’ communication and interpersonal skills.
The programme was coordinated by Dr. Abhishek Singh, Mr. Praveen Semwal, and Ms. Akanksha Sayana, Assistant Professors, UIPS. They guided the students and emphasized the vital role of pharmacy professionals in promoting the rational use of medicines and addressing the growing challenge of antimicrobial resistance.
The programme received an encouraging response from the villagers, who actively participated in the interactive sessions and showed interest in learning about appropriate antibiotic use and preventive measures against AMR.
Dr. Yogita Tyagi, HoD, UIPS, and Dr. Vikash Jakhmola, Director, UIPS, supported and encouraged the initiative, reaffirming the institute’s commitment to public health education and community welfare.
