On the occasion of World Mental Health Day, Uttaranchal Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Uttaranchal Univeristy organized an educational visit to the State Mental Health Institute and Hospital, Selaqui on 09th October 2026 to raise awareness about mental health disorders and provide practical exposure to psychiatric care. A total of 40 students, accompanied by two faculty members, participated in the visit.
The event was coordinated by Mrs. Pooja Negi, Ms. Pallavi Pandey, and Ms. Nikita Thapliyal, Assistant Professor, UIPS whose efforts contributed to the smooth and successful conduct of the programme.
Upon arrival, hospital officials and mental health professionals welcomed the students. An orientation session highlighted the importance of mental health awareness, empathy, early intervention, and multidisciplinary patient care. Students interacted with psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, and counselors, gaining valuable insights into mental health challenges, therapeutic approaches, counseling methods, and the role of pharmacists in promoting mental well-being.
UIPS extends sincere gratitude to Dr. Shailendra, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of the hospital, for his valuable cooperation and support. The institute also expresses heartfelt thanks to Prof. (Dr.) Vikash Jakhmola, Director, UIPS, Uttaranchal University, for his guidance, motivation, and encouragement in making the initiative successful.
The visit was an enriching learning experience that bridged theoretical knowledge with clinical practice and emphasized the importance of compassionate, holistic mental healthcare. It reinforced UIPS’s commitment to nurturing socially responsible and empathetic healthcare.
