The Department of Chemistry, under the aegis of the School of Applied and Life Sciences, Uttaranchal University, Dehradun, along with the Eco-club, successfully organized an Essay Competition on World Ozone Week–2026 on 21st September 2026. The event was organized under the banner of the Eco-club and ACS-UU International Chapter in association with the Resonance Club on the theme “Global Action for a Cooler Planet.”

The competition aimed to create awareness among students about the importance of the ozone layer, the threats posed by human activities, and the urgent need for its protection. It encouraged students to express their ideas on ozone conservation, sustainable environmental practices, and collective responsibility through creative and scientifically informed essays.

The event was coordinated by Dr. Pashupati Nath, Dr. Induja Mishra, and Dr. Rohit Singh Sajwan, with student coordinators Mrityunjay Bhardwaj, Rohit Rai, Prathima, and Rahul. Prof. (Dr.) Ajay Singh, Director, School of Applied and Life Sciences, graced the occasion and shared valuable insights on the importance of the ozone layer and its role in protecting life and the environment.

Students from Chemistry, Life Sciences, Environmental Science, and Biotechnology actively participated. The entries were evaluated on content, creativity, scientific accuracy, and clarity by Prof. (Dr.) Ajay Singh, Dr. Shivam Pandey, and Dr. Pashupati Nath. Winners were awarded certificates and prizes for their outstanding efforts.

The event also included the World Ozone Week 2026 Pledge, encouraging students to protect the ozone layer, reduce their carbon footprint, promote sustainable practices, and spread environmental awareness. The programme concluded with a strong message of collective responsibility towards environmental conservation and a healthier future.
