Law College Dehradun organised an insightful session under the Alumni Talk Series on 11 August 2026, on the theme “Your Data, Your Digital Future: An Introduction to Data Privacy”, under the aegis of Competition Cell. The session aimed to sensitise students on data privacy, digital safety and responsible use of technology and Artificial Intelligence. Advocate Anureet Kaur, alumnae of LCD, AI, Data Privacy & Protection Expert, Member IAPP, Associate Universiteit Leiden, and Chief Operating Officer & Director, PrivacyTru Consulting was the keynote speaker.
The session commenced with an address by Professor Rajesh Bahuguna, Pro Vice Chancellor and Dean, Law College Dehradun, who highlighted the increasing relevance of data protection and technological awareness in the legal profession and encouraged students to develop an understanding of emerging areas of law.
Following this the keynote speaker began with an introduction to data privacy and personal data, explaining how individuals share their information through websites, mobile applications and digital platforms. Through relatable examples, students were made aware of the information collected through cookies, IP addresses, location services, behavioural patterns, and third-party trackers. She further explained key concepts relating to data protection, including the roles of the Data Principal, Data Fiduciary and Data Processor, along with principles such as consent, purpose limitation and data minimisation. The discussion also covered sensitive categories of personal information, including biometric, financial and health data, and the risks associated with their improper handling. It further explored the intersection of Artificial Intelligence and data privacy and the importance of responsible and privacy-conscious use of AI.
