A healthy campus begins with informed choices, responsible minds, and the courage to say no to substance abuse. As Deeksharambh  2026 progresses beyond academic orientation towards holistic student development, the Uttaranchal School of Computing Sciences (USCS), Uttaranchal University organized an impactful Awareness Session on “Substance Free Living: Building Drug-Free Campus Together” on 18 August 2026, in association with JAI – Youth Wing, Shri Nityanand Swami Jan Seva Samiti, and Young Indians (YI).

The session featured Dr. Akhil Chopra, MBBS, MD Psychiatry, FIPS, Consultant Psychiatrist, Mind Heal & Mind Heal Plus, Dehradun, as the Resource Person. Prof. (Dr.) Sonal Sharma, Director, USCS, felicitated Expert as a gesture of appreciation for his valuable contribution to the awareness session.

Addressing the students, Dr. Chopra sensitized them about the physical, psychological, social, and academic consequences of substance abuse. He emphasized the importance of informed decision-making, healthy coping mechanisms, positive peer influence, and timely support in preventing substance dependence. His insightful address encouraged students to make responsible choices, prioritize their well-being, and contribute towards building a safe, healthy, and drug-free campus environment.

The interactive session encouraged students to understand the importance of mental well-being, self-discipline, positive peer relationships, and responsible choices. As a meaningful commitment towards a healthier and substance-free campus, a pledge was also administered by Mr. Ajay Singh Rawat, Head, Anti-Drug Committee, motivating students to collectively stand against substance abuse and make responsible choices. The programme was coordinated by the HoD, USCS, with the support of Ms. Manisha Saini and Ms. Divya Rawat. The session was also attended by Ms. Surbhi Patel, Coordinator, JAI Youth Wing, whose presence strengthened the collaborative efforts towards promoting a safe, healthy, and drug-free campus environment.
