Uttaranchal Institute of Management (UIM), Uttaranchal University, organized an Anti-Drug Awareness Program on 12 August 2026 as part of Deeksharambh 2026, the orientation program for newly enrolled students at the University. The aim of the session is to sensitize newly admitted students about the harmful effects of drug and substance abuse and to encourage them to live a healthy, drug-free campus life.
The program commenced with a formal introduction and welcome to the honourable President, Mr. Jitendra Joshi, President, UU and other dignitaries constituting the presidium. The session further proceeded with a memento and sapling welcome to the chief guest Dr. Mukul Sharma, a renowned clinical psychologist, by Prof. Pradeep Suri, Director, UIM.
Delivering the keynote session, Dr. Mukul Sharma, a recipient of the Seva Award from the Hon’ble President of India, spoke at length on the harmful physical, psychological and social effects of drug and substance abuse. He shared authentic, evidence-based insights with the students and offered practical guidance on recognizing early warning signs, building resilience against peer pressure, and seeking timely help. He encouraged students to make informed choices and to look out for one another as they begin their university life.
The program also witnessed a soulful address by Prof. Pradeep Suri, Director, UIM, who lent his own resolute voice against drug-abuse. Echoing and reaffirming the very spirit of Dr. Sharma's counsel, Prof. Suri exhorted the students to walk the path of discipline and self-respect, to choose courage over convenience, and to let purpose – not intoxication – be the fire that lights their years ahead.
The session was concluded by an E-Pledge, through which students committed to a drug-free lifestyle, followed by vote of thanks to all the Anti-Durg Cell members, Volunteers and faculty for their support in the successful conduct of the event.
