The Department of Forensic Science, School of Applied and Life Sciences (SALS), Uttaranchal University, organized a Guest Lecture on “The Future of Forensic Sciences: Skilling Youth for Justice, Technology & Nation Building” on 20th April 2026 for the students of B.Sc. and M.Sc. Forensic Science. The Guest speaker was Dr. Narotam Sharma, Managing Director, CRIS DNA Labs, Dehradun.
He also delivered a Lecture on “Shaping the future: Opportunities and Innovations in Biological Sciences connecting from Lab skills to Nation Building for Viksit Bharat” for Students of Biological Sciences.
The workshop was aimed at providing students with in-depth knowledge of DNA profiling techniques and their significance in forensic investigations. The session covered important aspects such as DNA extraction, Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), Gel electrophoresis, and interpretation of DNA evidence. Students were also introduced to recent advancements in Biological & Forensic genetics and their role in solving criminal cases. An informative video was shown to the students to make them aware and learn about the working environment and different activities at CRIS DNA labs. A video displaying new ventures of CRIS DNA lab for people of hilly regions was also shown to bring awareness in students towards addressing the problem of migration in the mountains.
In addition to technical knowledge, the workshop emphasized various career opportunities available in Biological and Forensic Science, including roles in forensic laboratories, research institutions, and law enforcement agencies. The session was interactive, allowing students to engage in discussions and clarify their queries.
