The occasion of Earth Day was celebrated on 22nd April, 2026, by the School of Applied and Life Sciences (SALS) in association with the environmental club Eco Cops' and the department of Chemistry. Earth Day is a global event dedicated to raising awareness about environmental protection and promoting sustainable practices. It is celebrated every year on 22nd April. It is meant as a reminder of the responsibility to protect natural resources and maintain ecological balance. Taking a pledge on this day reflects participants’ commitment to conserving energy, reducing pollution, and preserving the planet for future generations.

On the occasion, a pledge ceremony was held from 10 am onwards at the SALS building, and students from various M.Sc. and B.Sc. courses participated in the pledge. Director Dr. Ajay Singh (Dean, Research) started the pledge ceremony with a speech about the importance of celebrating ‘Earth Day.' A summary of the pledge is as follows: I will support renewable energy and adopt sustainable practices in my daily life" (1). I will actively plant trees and contribute to preserving biodiversity (2). I will also spread awareness about environmental protection among others and encourage responsible behavior (3). I will make conscious choices to reduce my carbon footprint and minimize environmental impact (4). Additionally, I will conserve energy by switching off unused lights and using energy-efficient appliances (5).

The second half of the program was inaugurated by respected Dr. Ajay Singh with lamp-lighting ceremony. To grace the occasion, coordinators Dr. Nishesh Sharma and Dr. Shivam Pandey were also present. “Eco cops” coordinator Dr. Paromita Mukherjee anchored the event. Dr. Rohit Singh conducted the presentations.
