The Uttaranchal College of Nursing, under the aegis of Uttaranchal University, solemnly organized the Lamp Lighting and Oath Taking Ceremony and Mega Blood Donation camp on 24th and 25th February 2026, marking a significant milestone in the academic journey of the B.Sc. Nursing First Year students. The ceremony was conducted under the esteemed guidance of Dr. Kartikey Gaur, Director and Joint Registrar, Uttaranchal University and Dr. Midhu Kurian, Principal, Uttaranchal College of Nursing. The event symbolized the formal induction of budding nurses into the noble profession dedicated to care, compassion, and service.
The ceremony commenced with the traditional Lamp Lighting ritual, a deeply symbolic gesture inspired by the legacy of Florence Nightingale. The lighting of the lamp represented the illumination of knowledge, the spirit of compassion, and the commitment to selfless service. The auspicious occasion was graced by the presence of Chief Guest Dr. Sunita Tamta, Director General, Medical Health and Family Welfare, Dehradun, and Guest of Honour Manisha Dhyani, Registrar, Uttarakhand Nurses and Midwives Council. Their presence, along with the distinguished leadership of the university, added dignity and inspiration to the ceremony.
A profoundly moving highlight of the event was the Transfer of the Lamp ceremony, wherein the symbolic flame of responsibility and dedication was passed on to the new batch of nursing students. This was followed by the solemn administration of the professional oath, during which students pledged to uphold ethical practice, demonstrate empathy, and serve humanity with unwavering dedication. The inspiring addresses delivered by the dignitaries emphasized the importance of discipline, excellence, lifelong learning, and global competence in the evolving field of healthcare.
Further embodying the spirit of service, a Mega Blood Donation Camp was organized in collaboration with allied health institutions and the Government Doon Medical College Blood Bank. The initiative witnessed enthusiastic participation, with 76 students voluntarily donating blood, reinforcing the institution’s commitment to community welfare and humanitarian values. The ceremony, complemented by vibrant cultural performances and the impactful blood donation drive, stood as a powerful testament to the ethos nurtured at Uttaranchal College of Nursing — that nursing is not merely a profession, but a lifelong commitment to healing and service.
