The Department of Mechanical Engineering at UIT organized an insightful Expert Talk on “Intelligent Manufacturing: Physical AI-Powered Industrial Systems” on 25/02/2025. The main objective of the event was to help students better understand how automation, image processing, and advanced manufacturing technologies are coming together in modern industries.
The session was delivered by Dr. Rajendra Kumar Arya from Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU), Delhi. Dr. Arya is a distinguished alumnus of IIT Roorkee and IIT Bombay and has extensive expertise in advanced manufacturing and intelligent industrial systems.
The program began with a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony, symbolizing the removal of darkness and the beginning of knowledge. The ceremony was graced by Prof. (Dr.) Sumit Chaudhary (Director, UIT), Mr. Saurabh Aggarwal (Coordinator, Mechanical Engineering), and all faculty members of the Mechanical Engineering Department.
The event host, Kanishk Bhardwaj, a B.Tech. ME 3rd-year student, welcomed the gathering and set a positive tone for the session. Prof. (Dr.) Sumit Chaudhary addressed the audience and encouraged students and faculty to continuously update themselves with the latest technological advancements.
During his session, Dr. Arya spoke about the future of manufacturing and explained the concept of intelligent systems powered by AI. He discussed additive manufacturing and the fabrication of complex micro-features on materials that are difficult to machine. He also highlighted the importance of innovations in microfluidics, MEMS, and medical devices in advancing high-tech industries.
Dr. Arya further explained the role of material characterization using advanced techniques such as SEM, FESEM, EDX, and FTIR. He also discussed process optimization using modeling and simulation tools like ANSYS, COMSOL, and MATLAB. With several high-impact journal publications and patents to his credit, Dr. Arya’s lecture effectively combined academic knowledge with practical industry applications.
