Uttaranchal University among India’s Top Institutions in QS Sustainability Rankings 2026

Dehradun, India- Uttaranchal University has earned a prestigious position in the QS Sustainability Rankings 2026, strengthening its reputation as a forward-looking, sustainability-driven institution committed to global standards of environmental responsibility and social impact.


The 2026 edition of the QS Sustainability Rankings assessed 1,994 universities and colleges worldwide, including 103 leading institutions from India. Uttaranchal University has secured the 51st position nationally, placing it among the country’s top institutions demonstrating significant progress across sustainability-linked performance indicators. With strong indicators in Knowledge Exchange, Equality, and Governance, Uttaranchal University has achieved the highest score among all Uttarakhand institutions under the QS performance lens of ‘Knowledge Exchange’. The Sustainability Rankings 2026 have been released by the London-based QS ranking organisation.


With this recognition, Uttaranchal University rejoins the list of esteemed Indian institutions featured in the QS Sustainability Rankings 2026, such as the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, Indian Institute of Science, Indian Institute of Technology Madras, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, University of Delhi, Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, Jawaharlal Nehru University, Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, Vellore Institute of Technology, Vellore, Jamia Millia Islamia, Symbiosis International (Deemed University), University of Hyderabad, Banaras Hindu University, Indian Institute of Technology Indore and several other prestigious private institutions across the country. It is with sincere humility that Uttaranchal University shares its position above a few IITs and IIMs in the rankings.


This achievement highlights Uttaranchal University’s ongoing efforts in areas such as green campus practices, clean and green energy, water and energy conservation, waste management, SDG-oriented curriculum integration and community-focused sustainability initiatives etc.


The University's top leadership expressed immense pride in this significant milestone.

The President, Sh. Jitender Joshi; Vice President, Ms. Ankita Joshi; the Executive Director (Student Affairs & IT), Dr. Abhishek Joshi; Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dharam Buddhi; Pro Vice Chancellor, Prof. Rajesh Bahuguna; and Registrar, Dr. Anuj Kumar Rana, jointly stated that this remarkable achievement reflects Uttaranchal University’s unwavering commitment to academic excellence, research visibility, and global engagement.


The leadership also acknowledged the pivotal role of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) in steering quality benchmarks and fostering a culture of continuous improvement. They noted that IQAC’s efforts in promoting internationalisation initiatives, enhancing data-driven decision-making and strengthening academic and research quality have directly contributed to this global recognition.


They extended their congratulations to Er. Rajesh Deorari (Director, IQAC), Er. Sudhir Jugran (Assistant Manager, IQAC), and all faculty members for their dedication, meticulous documentation and instrumental contributions that enabled the University to secure its place in this prestigious global ranking.
