Law College Dehradun (LCD), Faculty of Uttaranchal University, organized the second workshop in its IPR Workshop Series 2025 on August 30, 2025. The session, titled “IP Management for Maximum Benefit,” was led by Prof. (Dr.) Jitendra Singh, Head of the Department of Management at LCD, Uttaranchal University. It emphasized that intellectual property (IP) management extends beyond protection to serve as a strategic business tool for startups, safeguarding innovations while maximizing benefits for competitive advantage and sustainable growth.

Prof. (Dr.) Jitendra Singh began by appreciating the organizers and highlighting the growing importance of intellectual property rights (IPR) in today's competitive business landscape. He illustrated this through key case studies, including Adidas logos (trademarks), Uttaranchal University’s Kulgeet (copyright), and Coca-Cola’s layered protection via trademarks, industrial designs, and trade secrets. He also cited geographical indications (GI) like Kolhapuri chappals, Tirupati laddus, and Dehradun’s Chetan Puri Wala sweets, along with industry examples and his own patent for an eco-friendly cremation innovation, demonstrating IP’s role in fostering sustainability.

The third session, by Prof. (Dr.) Lakshmi Priya Vinjamuri, focused on “Overview of Patent Laws: Drafting and Filing”. She covered patent fundamentals, the evolution of India’s Patents Act and its TRIPS alignment, drafting processes (including claims, application types, priority dates, and common errors), non-patentable inventions, compulsory licensing, and fee structures. The event successfully raised awareness of IP as a strategic asset, building anticipation for future workshops.
