The Uttaranchal School of Hotel and Hospitality Management (USHHM), Uttaranchal University, successfully organized a thought-provoking seminar titled “Speaking the Culture: Empathy and Expression in Hospitality Communication” on 28th October 2025 at the Seminar Hall, New Building, Uttaranchal University.
The session, organized by the Literary Club of USHHM, aimed to enhance students’ understanding of the role of language, tone, and cultural translation in shaping guest experiences and interpersonal communication within the hospitality industry.
The guest speaker, Dr. Deepak Bijalwan, Poet, Translator, and Assistant Professor (English Literature), Uttaranchal University, shared insightful perspectives on the art of empathetic communication. Drawing upon his experiences as a literary scholar and creative writer, Dr. Bijalwan emphasized how sensitivity in speech, cultural awareness, and emotional intelligence form the essence of professional hospitality.
Through engaging examples, poetic reflections, and real-life analogies, Dr. Bijalwan encouraged students to perceive language as more than just a skill — as a bridge between emotion and experience. His talk inspired attendees to communicate with empathy, inclusivity, and cultural consciousness.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and faculty members, who appreciated the session’s innovative approach to integrating literature with hospitality management.
The seminar was organized under the guidance of Dr. Manish Badoni and coordinated by faculty members and student volunteers of the Literary Club, USHHM.
By blending creativity, communication, and cultural understanding, the programme successfully promoted the values of empathy, respect, and cross-cultural sensitivity — aligning with the University’s vision of holistic education and professional excellence.
