The School of Applied and Life Sciences (SALS), Uttaranchal University, celebrated Himalaya Day with enthusiasm and academic spirit on 9th September 2025. The event was jointly organised by Eco-Cops and the ACS-UU International Chapter on the theme “From Glaciers to Landslides: Understanding Disaster Patterns in the Himalayan Ecosystem.”
The highlight of the celebration was a student presentation competition, where participants shared their insights on the fragile Himalayan ecosystem. Their presentations addressed critical issues such as climate change, retreating glaciers, and the increasing frequency of landslides, while also suggesting sustainable strategies for conservation and disaster preparedness. The ideas showcased reflected not only academic understanding but also a deep sense of ecological responsibility.
The event was successfully managed by Dr. Shivam Pandey and Dr. Paromita Mukherjee, whose efforts ensured smooth coordination and active participation. The occasion was graced by Dr. Ajay Singh, Director of SALS, who praised the students’ enthusiasm and emphasized the significance of Himalaya Day in fostering ecological sensitivity and environmental stewardship among young scholars. Overall, the celebration proved to be an engaging and insightful platform that inspired students to contribute towards protecting the Himalayan environment while deepening their understanding of disaster patterns in the region.
