Uttaranchal Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS), in collaboration with Uttaranchal Hospital and Diagnostic Centre (UHDC), conducted a training program on 01 August 2025, for the handling and management of Biomedical Waste under the guidance of the Medical Pollution Control Committee (MPCC).   

The session was attended by faculty members, lab technicians, and housekeeping staff to sensitize them to the safe segregation, categorization, transportation, and disposal of biomedical waste in compliance with the Biomedical Waste Management Rules, 2016.   Prof (Dr) Vikash Jakhmola, Director, UIPS, felicitate our resource person, Mr Tushar Sharma, Senior Manager, Uttarakhand, MPCC.

Mr Tushar Sharma delivered detailed presentations and demonstrations on color-coded waste segregation, bar-code labeling, use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and the importance of maintaining hygiene to avoid contamination and infection risks. The training emphasized the environmental and health hazards of improper waste handling and encouraged all participants to strictly adhere to the guidelines. The session concluded with an interactive Q&A and a practical demonstration, ensuring active participation and awareness among attendees. Around 50 faculty and staff members participated in the training program.


This program marks a significant step toward promoting a safe and compliant biomedical waste disposal system at UIPS and UHDC. The event was organized under the guidance of Prof (Dr) Vikash Jakhmola, Director, UIPS & Dr Amit Bhatt, Campus Director, Uttaranchal University. The event was coordinated by Ms Yogita Ale, Assistant Professor, UIPS, Uttaranchal University.
