Faculty Development Programme on ‘Humanities in the Age of AI: Strategies for Research and Publication in a Transformative Era’

The School of Liberal Arts, Uttaranchal University, successfully organised a five-day Faculty Development Programme (FDP) from 21 to 25 July 2025 on the theme “Humanities in the Age of AI: Strategies for Research and Publication in a Transformative Era.” The FDP aimed to explore the evolving relationship between the humanities and artificial intelligence, focusing on research innovation, ethical implications, academic writing, and publication strategies. 

The inaugural session commenced with a virtual lamp lighting by Prof (Dr) Dharam Buddhi, Vice Chancellor, Uttaranchal University; Prof (Dr) Shravan Kumar, Director, School of Liberal Arts; and Prof (Dr) Reeta Rautela, Head of Department. Prof Buddhi highlighted the importance of authentic and indexed research, while Prof Kumar emphasised awareness of predatory publishing and the value of meaningful scholarship. 

 

Day 1 featured Dr Rajeshwar Mittapalli, who presented on “Leveraging AI Tools for Research and Publication.” On Day 2, Dr Ajay Kumar Chaubey delivered a session on “Tools and Techniques of Virtual and Physical Presentation.” Day 3 included Prof Vishnu Patil’s lecture on “Alchemy of Composition of Research Proposals for Research Grants.” Dr Cynthia Ross spoke on Day 4 about “Navigating the Complexities of AI Usage in Academic Research.” On the final day, Dr Anand Kumar Singh addressed “Sources of Publication and Indexing in the Field of Humanities.” 

 

The valedictory session included participants’ feedback, a report presentation by Ms Rati Sood, and an address by Prof (Dr) Rajesh Bahuguna, Pro Vice Chancellor, who appreciated the initiative. The FDP concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms Malika Payal, FDP Coordinator. The programme successfully concluded with the efforts of all faculty members under the guidance of Prof (Dr) Shravan Kumar, Director, SLA.
