Anti-Drug Awareness Talk Held at Uttaranchal University

On 15 July 2025, Anti-Drug Cell of Uttaranchal University, organized a powerful and enlightening awareness talk on Nasha Mukti (Freedom from Addiction), aimed at sensitizing students about the grave consequences of drug abuse. The event was graced by esteemed government officials and experts, Dr. Dinesh Chauhan, Deputy CMO, Mr. Manoj K.S. Aswal CO, Mussoorie, Mr. Hargiri, SDM Sadar, and Ms. Reena Rathore, CO, Premnagar who urged the youth to steer clear of drugs and embrace a healthier lifestyle. Also present on the occasion were Shri Jitendra Joshi, President Uttaranchal University, Ms Ankita Joshi, Vice President, Prof (Dr) Dharam Buddhi, Vice Chancellor, Prof (Dr) Rajesh Bahuguna, Pro Vice Chancellor, Prof (Dr) Shravan Kumar, Dean Student Welfare and Prof (Dr) Sumit Chaudhary Director, UIT.

The event began on a solemn yet uplifting note with a warm welcome by the President of the University, Shri Jitendra Joshi, who presented bouquets to the dignitaries. This was followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp and rendition of the Kulgeet.

Dr. Dinesh Chauhan, Deputy CMO, delivered an impactful address, highlighting the severe physical and psychological effects of substance abuse. He emphasized the importance of early detection and health screenings in identifying drug-dependent individuals. Mr. Manoj K.S. Aswal, CO, Mussoorie, echoed the concern and called upon students to stay vigilant and spread awareness within their circles.

Mr. Hargiri, SDM Sadar, discussed the growing concerns of drug use in educational institutions. His address was followed by a solemn oath-taking ceremony, where students pledged to never indulge in substance abuse and to help build a drug-free society.

Ms. Reena Rathore, CO, Premnagar, also addressed the gathering. She reinforced the urgency of tackling drug issues on campuses and recommended regular health check-ups, active anti-drug cells, and adherence to government guidelines to monitor suspected cases effectively.

The event was successfully coordinated by Prof (Dr) Shravan Kumar, Dean Student Welfare, Uttaranchal University, among the presence of others. The programme concluded with the national anthem, leaving students inspired and informed about the critical need to fight the menace of drug abuse.
