Students of M Sc and B Sc Forensic Science visited District Court, Dehradun under supervision of Ms Charu Saklani. The visit to the District Court of Dehradun provided valuable insights into the application of forensic science in the judicial system. Adv. Shri Jagmohan Singh Aswal provided students the opportunity to observe a live court hearing related to a narcotic case. This experience offered a real-world understanding of courtroom proceedings, legal arguments, and the structured interaction between the judge, lawyers, and witnesses. The key highlight was an informative lecture by Mr Abhishek Vashisth, a forensic expert specializing in Questioned Document Analysis, Handwriting Analysis, and Fingerprint Examination. The session covered forensic techniques used to verify document authenticity, detect forgeries, and identify individuals through fingerprints. Advanced tools such as magnifiers, stereomicroscopes, Video Spectral Comparators (VSC), and Automated Fingerprint Identification Systems (AFIS) were discussed. Additionally, Graphology, the study of handwriting to determine personality traits, was introduced, along with different types of handwriting movements and forgery detection techniques. The session highlighted how forensic techniques such as questioned document analysis and fingerprint examination aid in legal investigations and the significance of forensic evidence in judicial decisions and the role of expert testimony in legal arguments were also observed. The visit bridged the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world application, showcasing the intersection of forensic science and the legal system and offered a comprehensive perspective on forensic science’s role in law, reinforcing its importance in criminal investigations and judicial proceedings.
