The Legal aid Centre of Law College Dehradun proudly celebrates 25th Uttarakhand State Foundation Day on 8 November 2024. On this auspicious eve, the university welcomed Shri Ravindra Jugran, as the keynote speaker, who played a major role in Uttarakhand Rajya Andolan. The event was held in the esteemed presence of Shri Jitender Joshi, President, Uttaranchal University Ms Ankita Joshi, Vice- President, Dr Abhishek Joshi, Executive director, Prof Dharam Buddhi, Vice- Chancellor, Prof Rajesh Bahuguna, Pro Vice- Chancellor & Dean, Law college Dehradun, Prof Poonam Rawat, Principal, Prof (Dr) Radhe Shyam Jha, and all the Deans and Directors of the university.  

The event commenced with the felicitation of the guest by Shri Jitender Joshi, followed by the felicitation of all the Deans and Directors with Uttarakhand’s traditional Garhwali Cap. To celebrate the journey and the spirit of Uttarakhand, the students formed a skit that took everyone through the defining moments of Uttarakhand’s history, the struggle for statehood by Rajya Lankari. Prof Rajesh Bahuguna in his address enlightened everyone about the different non-violent movements undertaken by the people of Uttarakhand.  

Shri Ravindra Jugranstated that the movement was started by youngsters, led by women, and supported by army men. Further, he urged everyone to transfer this history of Uttarakhand to the next generation. The world was surprised and stunned by the sight of countless women from mountain region rising to demand change. He compared Uttarakhand’s Andolans with Swadheenta Sangram Andolan of independence where fewer women participated. Uttarakhand is a military state, each family has a representative serving in the armed forces. The movement’s success was facilitated by the support of military personnel.  

Prof Dharam Buddhi, Vice-Chancellor, congratulated everyone and shared his views on the migration of the Uttarakhand people. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof Poonam Rawat.
