The Department of Physics, School of Applied and Life Sciences at Uttaranchal University organized a two-day National Workshop on "Modeling and Simulation in Engineering and Science" from June 3-4, 2024. In the inaugural address, Prof (Dr) Ajay Singh, Dean, SALS emphasized the significance of exchanging ideas, experiences, and cutting-edge methodologies in modelling and simulation. Prof B S Rawat, Convener outlined the event's objectives and encouraged participants to actively engage in discussions, interact with esteemed speakers, and leverage networking opportunities for potential collaborations.
The workshop commenced with an insightful lecture by Prof (Dr) Sumit Chaudhary, Dean, Uttaranchal Institute of Technology, Uttaranchal University, Dehradun, UK, India. Dr Chaudhary's lecture delved into an exciting journey into the realms where modelling and computational simulation converge to solve some of the most complex problems in engineering and science. He explained modelling and simulation's importance in engineering and science, different types of models (e.g., physical, mathematical, computational) and their applications, and an overview of various simulation techniques (e.g., Monte Carlo, finite element analysis, agent-based modelling). He assigned hands-on practical exercises using simulation software
On the second day, the workshop featured online mode lecture sessions by Dr B S Rawat, Dr Ajay Singh Verma, and Dr N Kumar covering topics simulation of physical phenomena such as fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, and quantum mechanics and explaining the concept of computation by Gaussian 16, WIEN2k and other simulation model.
During the valedictory function, Dr Pooja Rawat and Ms Shardha Khal khundiya expressed gratitude on behalf of the Physics Department and proposed a vote of thanks.
