Law College Dehradun organised a seminar on 'Role of Forensic Science in Criminal Investigation' on 7 May 2024. Dr G K Goswami, Additional Director General of Police of Uttar Pradesh and Director of Forensic Science Institute, Lucknow, was the chief guest and keynote speaker and the Chancellor of the University, Shri Jitendra Joshi ji welcomed the chief guest with a bouquet and memento.
Shri Goswami ji explained the rationale and importance of forensic science through his real-life experiences. He said that the edifice of every dispute is established on the foundation of injustice whereas justice is at the core of forensic science. The common man expects a fair hearing from the court, but the reality is that a fair hearing is not possible without fair investigation. A verdict based only on oral testimony is not a guarantee of justice whereas evidence based on forensic science not only adds weight to the main evidence but is also impartial and scientifically tested. He said that forensic science is a powerful weapon which proves both guilt and innocence.
Dean of Law College and Pro Vice-Chancellor of University Prof Rajesh Bahuguna averred that the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 has made forensic investigation mandatory in cases of offences having punishment of more than seven years. Due to this, the importance of forensic science has increased, and immense possibilities have emerged in this field.
Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof Dharam Buddhi Proposed the vote of thanks and advanced an MoU with the Institute of Forensic Science. This event witnessed the presence of faculty members and more than 1200 participants from various departments.
