Faculty Development Programme on Advance Technologies in Soil health Assessment and Management Practices

The School of Agriculture (SOA) organized an eight-day Faculty Development Program (FDP) on ‘Advance Technologies in Soil Health Assessment and Management Practices’ from 6 May to 13 May 2024. Prof (Dr) Mahipal Singh, Dean, SOA welcomed the expert speakers and attendees of the programme Dr Rajendra Prasad, Head of the Department persuaded all faculty members to attend such FDPs to enhance their knowledge. There were varied lectures scheduled by different experts as Dr Ajay Singh, Dean SALS on ‘Overview of soil health parameters and indicators and the proper methods for soil sample collection’; Prof (Dr) Mahipal Singh, Dean SOA on ‘Importance of microbial biomass in soil health and fertility’; Prof (Dr) S D Pandey Dean, UIT on ‘Remote sensing techniques for monitoring soil moisture, organic matter content, and compaction’; Mr Jai Rajnikant Desai, Chem Biotech State Tax Officer Pune Maharashtra  on ‘Soil chemical analysis techniques by Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS)’; Mr Sanjay Kandpal, Systronic Scientific India Ltd.  Assistant Manager Service, Dehradun on ‘Software tools for data visualization and interpretation of results obtained from Equipment used in Soil Science’; Prof. Dr. Bharti Ramola, SALS ‘on Analysis of Chemical pollutants in Soil’; Prof. Dr. Rajesh Singh DRI, UU  on Introduction to Complementary Instruments and Overview of other important instruments: ICP-OES, XRF, FTIR, etc.’; Dr. Anita Gehlot, DRI, UU on ‘Discussion on innovative applications and future research directions and Review of recent studies utilizing AAS in soil science research and Mr. Ankesh, Himalayan Manager at Himalayan on ‘Case studies highlighting the impact of soil health management practices on farm productivity and sustainability’. There was a visit to Department of Aerospace Engineering, UIT to demonstrate equipment used in Remote Sensing. At the end of each lecture, there was a questionnaire session. On the last day a Vote of Thanks was proposed by Dr Rajendra Prasad, Head of the Department and furthermore, certificate distribution ceremony was held
