On 8 April 2024, an Educational cum Industrial tour was organized by the School of Agriculture (SOA), Uttaranchal University, Dehradun to the National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI), Karnal, Haryana for the students of B Sc (Hons) Agriculture, Semester 4th. The aim was to familiarize the agriculture students with dairy farming, the processing of milk and milk products, their quality control, and contemporary research in the dairy sector NDRI, the students first visited the Exhibition Unit, showcasing NDRI's contributions to food quality testing and dairy product innovation. Students learned about the advancement in technologies used in Dairy Sector, Animal husbandry and Sustainable Agriculture.
At the Milk Processing Unit, students observed the manufacturing processes for various dairy products, innovative methods of quality control, logistics and their marketing skills. The students also observed diverse but indigenous breeds of cattle and goat while visiting the cowshed and goat shed at National Bureau of Animal Genetic Resources (NBAGR) Unit in the same campus.
Overall, the industrial visit provided valuable understandings to our students into dairy sector specifically for production and their management. The students interacted with industry experts and gained knowledge about the latest advancements in dairy technology and sustainable agriculture practices.
