Law College Dehradun organised a Faculty Development Programme which focused on Quality Legal Research and innovative initiatives entitled “Legal Research-Unleashing the contemporary dynamics”, from 24 January to 01 February 2024. The emergence of technologically advanced means and modes for conducting research has created a lacuna for traditional teachers and legal researchers, right from the conduct of empirical research to the review of the literature using modern tools, and reliable and authentic literature resources. The FDP has a focused three-fold objective to ensure legal databases are accessed with optimal utilization of the e-resources, effective writing of research papers and proposals with an understanding of the aspects of copyright issues and violations.
The inaugural session had the customary traditional lighting of the lamp by Prof (Dr) Rajesh Bahuguna, Dean, Law College Dehradun, and Pro Vice- Chancellor Uttaranchal University along with Prof (Dr) Poonam Rawat, Principal, Law College Dehradun, and the team DIQAC. The speaker on the opening day was Mr Abijeet Gupta from Lexis Nexis who trained on Legal Research Beyond Cases and the use of the e-resource available at the University followed by Mr Arun Singh Thakur, Senior Grade Librarian at Uttaranchal University appraising the genuineness and Authenticity in Research, use and misuse of Legal Resources, and effective use of Library for Legal Research and Publication.
Two days were dedicated to establishing the needed connection between technology and law and Prof (Dr) Rajesh Singh, Director, DRI spoke on ‘Transcending Law into Science’ with his enthralling talk on the Technology and Law Interface followed by Dr Anita Gehlot, Head Research and Innovation, DRI. Dr Gehlot emphasised on ‘Connecting the Dots for Legal Domain with Industry 5.0’. The last two days had a rigorous training session on legal databases by Mr. Ajay Pratap Singh, unravelling the SCC Online and Hein Online Portals and Mr Amarender Singh from Manupatra explaining the process of Accessing Legal Databases Effectively for Evaluative Research. The event is a concentrated and coordinated effort of Team DIQAC and Dr Lakshmi Priya Vinjamuri, Coordinator DIQAC and convenor of the FDP.
