The School of Applied and Life Sciences (SALS), Uttaranchal University, began its induction and orientation program for the class of 2023–2024 on August 16, 2023. The new students got to meet the higher officials of the university in a central orientation programme held in the auditorium of the university. Students were given an understanding of the university's core values, vision, and mission by Prof. Ajay Singh, Dean of SALS, at the school level, which helped to foster a sense of community. The new students were introduced to program coordinators from various disciplines as well as faculty members, who will play important roles in their academic careers. Prof. Ajay Singh also discussed the key aspects of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
In order to help students explore and plan for their future careers, the Career Resource Center (CRC) held a meeting with first-year students. The meeting stressed the significance of using career resources early in one's academic journey in order to make informed career decisions and develop essential skills for success. Further students were appraised about the central library facilities of the university. A session was held to help introduce first-year students to the university's ERP facility. This gave information about the functionality of the ERP, such as alerts, assignment tracking, attendance updates, and access to study materials. Educational tours were organized for the new students of various disciplines to various places like the ONGC Museum, DNA Labs, Survey of India, and Dehradun Zoo. Freshmen enthusiastically participated in the organized sport and cultural events.
The goal of the orientation program was to give new students a thorough introduction to university life, academic resources, and extracurricular activities in order to lay a solid academic foundation for their time at the School of Applied and Life Sciences at Uttaranchal University.
