In the spirit of Matribhasha Diwas, the Uttaranchal Institute of Management (UIM), Uttaranchal University, organized a thematic poetry recitation event titled “Matribhasha Kavya Pravah: Poetry of Patriotism” on February 19, 2026. The Literary Club, UIM, coordinated the programme in the esteemed presence of Prof. (Dr.) Pradeep Suri, Director, UIM, and Prof. Tilottama Singh, HoD, UIM, whose guidance and encouragement added great significance to the event. The event featured Dr. Mobin Anwar and Mr. Hardev Negi, Assistant Professors, UIM, as the judges for the competition. The activity aimed at celebrating the emotional depth and expressive power of India's diverse mother tongues through the lens of national pride and love for the country.
Students from various academic programs participated, reciting famous patriotic works in their respective matribhashas, such as Hindi, Garhwali, Kumaoni, Gujarati, Punjabi, and Urdu. Following the initial rounds of performances, Ms. Chanchal, Assistant Professor and member of the Literary Club, UIM, spoke on the importance of the mother tongue, highlighting its role in cultural identity.
Later, the judges declared the results to recognize outstanding and impactful performances. The winner of the competition was Rudra Sharma (B.Com.), followed by the first runner-up, Prachi Sindhwal (BBA AM), and the second runner-up, Yusuf Khair (BBA). The judges shared a few words of encouragement, emphasizing the importance of preserving linguistic heritage while nurturing a spirit of unity among students.
Addressing the gathering, Prof. (Dr.) Pradeep Suri, Director, UIM, delivered an insightful address emphasizing the vital importance of the mother tongue in preserving one's cultural identity.
The formal proceedings ended with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Dr. Bharti, Head – Literary Club, UIM, who expressed gratitude to the guest speaker, dignitaries, and students for making the session meaningful and impactful.
