An Expert Talk on “Digital Technology and Intellectual Property Rights in Agriculture” was successfully organized by the School of Agriculture (SOA), Uttaranchal University, on 19th February. The programme was conducted with the objective of creating awareness among students about the role of digital innovations and Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) in modern agriculture and the emerging start-up ecosystem.
The event commenced with the welcome of guests, followed by the keynote address delivered by Prof. (Dr.) Sharad Pandey, Director, SOA, who emphasized the changing scenario of Indian agriculture and the role of digital technologies such as precision farming, artificial intelligence, drones, and data-driven agriculture. He highlighted the need to protect innovations through proper IPR mechanisms to promote sustainable agricultural development.
The expert talk was delivered by Dr. Gaurav Jain, Assistant Professor, SOA. He discussed the application of digital technologies in agriculture, including smart farming tools, GIS, remote sensing, and agri-startups. He also explained various aspects of Intellectual Property Rights, such as patent filing procedures, protection of new plant varieties, geographical indications, and their role in promoting agribusiness and start-ups. The session was highly interactive and informative. The event witnessed the presence of faculty members of SOA and a large number of students from B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture, who actively participated and benefited from the expert talk.
