The School of Agriculture (SOA), Uttaranchal University, conducted a skill development program on “Identification of Valuable Timber/Non-Timber Tree Species” for the students of agriculture on 8th April 2023. The main objective of the workshop was to enhance the skills and ability of students in identification and taxonomic classification of forest trees. During the session, students were carried to natural forest nearby university campus and various morphological characters like morphology of flowers and leaves, estivation, crown type, main stem (bole) and number of side branches, height, collar diameter or girth, bark type and thickness, etc. of forest trees were explained by subject expert Mr. Sunil Prakash, Assistant Professor, SOA to the participants.
In addition, students were motivated for collection of samples and herbarium preparation. They were also learnt about the nursery management of the forest trees.
