Ek Pehel
The Women Cell of School of Liberal Arts, Uttaranchal University
organized an interactive session between rural women from Kholupani Village and
students from the SLA on 21 April 2023. During the session, the women spoke
about their lost passions and desires and shared their difficult living
conditions. Many had migrated from Bihar to Uttarakhand in search of work and
struggled to support themselves and their families. Their days were filled with
household chores, work, and worrying about their children's education and
health. The contrast between their lives and those of urban women was striking.
Despite their limited resources, these women had a vision for a better future,
and a desire to pursue their interests and passions.
Ek Pehel was an initiative, aimed
at empowering rural women to pursue their dreams and interests. The event not
only raised awareness about the challenges faced by rural women but also gave
students an opportunity to connect with them and understand their perspectives.
Through recreational activities, the students were able to offer a glimmer of
hope, inspiring some of the young married women to continue their education.
The event was organized by Dr Reeta Rautela and Pragya Malla, with the guidance
and support of Prof (Dr) Shravan Kumar, Dean of SLA.
