The UU ELTAI Reading Club of SLA, Uttaranchal University, marked World Poetry Day with a vibrant and emotionally stirring event, “Kavya Kauthik,” held on 21 March 2025 in the Seminar Hall. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and faculty members of the School of Liberal Arts, fostering appreciation and enjoyment of poetry.
The event aimed to highlight how poetry seeks to create beauty through language, rhythm, and sound and the way its aesthetic quality can enhance the experience of listeners. Poetry can foster a sense of connection between the poet and the audience, bridging personal experiences with universal themes. Additionally, the event provided students with a platform to develop creative and communication skills, deepen their understanding of poetic traditions and improve public speaking abilities.
The club hosted a multilingual poetry reading session that allowed the audience to experience the beauty and power of poetry while fostering an appreciation for language and literature. The eloquent delivery made the recitations more engaging and memorable, encouraging deeper understanding and appreciation of the underlying emotion. Students from various disciplines presented eloquent and emotionally resonant recitations on a variety of subjects. The second segment of the activity involved singing of poetry set to music, providing a unique and captivating experience for the audience.
Dr Deepak Bijalwan, coordinator of the literary club, spoke about the expression of emotions through poetry while exploring its beauty and power as a medium of language. The Reading Club's initiative reinforced how poetry connects to aesthetics – the exploration of beauty in the world. The event was coordinated by Dr Deepshikha Srivastava, Assistant Professor, SLA.
