Department of Food Technology, School of Applied and Life Sciences organised educational visit to NDRI in Karnal

The one-day educational visit was organized by the Department of Food Technology, the School of Applied and Life Sciences to NDRI in Karnal, India on 19/04/2023 which was cordially permitted by Dr Brajendra Singh Meena, Nodal Officer, Educational Tour & Visit, Dairy Extension Division, ICAR-NDRI. Students were enthusiastic and eager to learn about the latest developments in dairy research and technology. The visit provided them with valuable practical experience and a deeper understanding of the various aspects of dairy production and research. During the visit to NDRI, National Dairy Research Institute, students had the opportunity to explore various sections of the institute. They visited the museum where they learned about the history and evolution of dairy farming and processing in India. They also saw various dairy products like milk, cheese, and yogurt on display. Students also visited the Department of Experimental Dairy where they learned how different dairy products are being produced and also learned about the various processes involved in dairy production, including quality control measures. In the Animal Biotechnology Division, students learned about the latest developments in animal cloning technology and saw buffalo clones developed at NDRI as demonstrated by the senior scientist Dr Manoj Kumar Singh. They were shown how sensors are used to monitor the diet and health of animals and how automated milking machines work. Overall, the visit provided an enriching experience for the students and gave them a practical insight into the various aspects of dairy research and technology. A total of 50 students, a group of 26 undergraduate and postgraduate students from food technology and 24 undergraduate and postgraduate students from biotechnology and zoology visited NDRI. The visit was organized by Dr Nalini Trivedi from the Department of Food Technology. Dr Indra Rautela and Mr Priyvart Chaudhary from the Department of Biotechnology SALS Uttaranchal University also accompanied the group.
