Dehradun 17 March. “6th Edition of Debater of the Year-2023” was successfully organized today at Law College Dehradun, Faculty of Uttaranchal University. Executive Director of the university Dr. Abhishek Joshi was present on the occasion as the chief guest while Dr. Anjum Parvez, Dr. V. Bhuvaneswari and Mr. Kumar Ashutosh were present as judges of the competition. The topic of the debate was "One Child Policy in India is the need of the hour".

Participants opposing the one child policy said that the one child policy is the most controversial social engineering project. The concept of this policy is based only on perception and hypothesis. As a result of this, not only feticide, sex discrimination and old age population will increase, but the earners will decrease and the consumers will increase. We should take lessons from our neighboring country China because the far-reaching consequences of this policy will be worrying.

The participants speaking in favor of the topic demanded that one child policy is the need of the hour keeping in view the limited resources of the country, while demanding employment resources, conservative ideology, status of women in proportion to India's population. China's population policy was cited in its argument

In his address, the Dean of the college Dr. Rajesh Bahuguna said that indiscriminately increasing population is the most burning problem of the country. For its prevention, there is an absolute need not only for strict laws but also for a change in the social mindset.

Executive Director of the University, Dr. Abhishek Joshi said that the presentation of the participants on the burning issue like one child policy was of national level. He appreciated the arguments put forwarded by the participants in favour and against the motion. He awarded the winners with rolling trophy and cash prize.

In a close contest, Diksha Bora was adjudged as Hindi Debator of the Year while Shreya Mishra was declared as English Debater of the Year.
