Uttaranchal Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Uttaranchal University organized an Awareness program on National Cancer Awareness Day on 07 November, 2022. The event was organised by Pharmacology Club. Dr. Ankit Sharma, Asst. Prof. UIPS, delivered a session on common cancers in community and myths related to cancer. Total 110 students participated in the awareness programme. Dr. Ankit Sharma discussed about the common risk factors and warning signs of cancer. He further added that in the present scenario college students are vulnerable to cigarette smoking, chewing tobacco, being alcoholic and having in salutary lifestyle. It is estimated that cigarette smoking accounts for about one-third of all types of cancer, including 95 percent of lung cancer cases. Chewing tobacco and snuff also increases the risk of cancer, especially oral cancers. Alcohol causes different type cancer such as liver, breast, brain, blood and many more. Dr. Ankit presented a short video regarding pathophysiology of smoking and taking alcohol causing carcinoma which was a source of inspiration for all.
Prof (Dr) Vikash Jakhmola, Dean UIPS welcomed all the participants and mentioned various risk factors, early detection, diagnosis, and treatment options. He briefed the participants on methods of early detection and curative measures.
The event concluded with vote of thanks by Dr. Amit Semwal. He emphasized on the need and significance of the awareness of cancer among the people especially the upcoming generation who is still at the early stage of being aware of the hazards of cancer. He motivated students to stay healthy and shared his noble views on cancer awareness and its prevention.
