The Department of Civil Engineering organized an educational site visit to the Tehri Dam Project, Tehri Garhwal, Uttarakhand, on 26th September 2026 for B.Tech Civil Engineering students. The visit was coordinated by Mr. Vinod Balmiki and Mr. Loknath Kumar, Assistant Professors in the Department of Civil Engineering.
The visit commenced with an informative session at the Tehri Dam Museum, where Mr. Arjun Singh Nagdali, Assistant Engineer (Civil), provided detailed insights into the planning, construction, structural features, and functioning of the Tehri Dam Project. Students were introduced to the project's significance in hydroelectric power generation, water resource management, irrigation, and flood control.
The students subsequently visited the Power House, where Mr. Manish, Junior Engineer, explained the functioning of the hydroelectric power generation system, major components of the power house, water conveyance arrangements, turbines, and associated engineering systems.
The overall site visit was guided and supervised by Mr. Sunderlal, Work Assistant, Tehri Dam, who facilitated the movement of the students and provided necessary support throughout the visit. The educational tour offered students valuable practical exposure to one of India's major multipurpose dam projects and enhanced their understanding of dam engineering, hydropower generation, water resource management, and large-scale infrastructure development. The visit served as an enriching bridge between theoretical knowledge and its practical application in civil engineering.
