The primary aim of the event was to create awareness among students about the ecological importance of the Himalayas and the urgent need for their conservation. It also sought to engage students in a meaningful dialogue on the role of ecotourism in the fragile Himalayan ecosystem and to promote critical thinking on sustainable development practices.
The event was coordinated by Dr. Pashupati Nath and Dr. Rohit Singh Sajwan, with student coordinators Rohit Singh, Mrityunjay, Rahul. Coordinator Dr. Pashupati Nath shared valuable insights on the significance of the Himalayas and their vital role in maintaining environmental balance and sustaining life in special reference to ecotourism. Students from various programmes including Chemistry, Life Sciences, Environmental Science, and Biotechnology actively participated in the debate. The participants presented well-researched arguments highlighting both the positive contributions of responsible ecotourism and the potential threats posed by unregulated tourism to the Himalayan environment, biodiversity, and local communities. The performances were evaluated on the basis of content, clarity of speech, scientific accuracy, and overall presentation by a panel of judges consisting of Dr. Shivam Pandey, Dr. Rohit Singh Sajwan, and Dr. Asima. Winners were awarded certificates and prizes in recognition of their efforts. On this occasion, the students also took a solemn Pledge for Himalaya Day 2026, committing themselves to protect and conserve the sacred Himalayas, reduce their carbon footprint, plant and protect trees, avoid plastic and pollution, support sustainable development, and spread awareness for the well-being of people, nature, and the planet.
The event successfully fostered awareness and encouraged constructive discussion among young minds regarding the conservation of the Himalayas. It concluded with a strong message on the need to adopt sustainable practices and collective responsibility for protecting the fragile Himalayan ecosystem for future generations.
