The Uttaranchal Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS), Uttaranchal University, Dehradun, organized an educational visit to DNA Labs India, Center for Research & Innovative Studies (CRIS), Dehradun on 05th August 2026, to provide students with practical exposure to modern molecular diagnostic and laboratory techniques. The visit aimed to bridge the gap between classroom-based theoretical knowledge and its practical application in a professional laboratory environment.
The visit began with an introductory session involving students, faculty members, and representatives of DNA Labs India. The laboratory experts provided an overview of the organization, its diagnostic services, laboratory infrastructure, and the significance of molecular diagnostics in modern healthcare.
Students were introduced to the complete diagnostic laboratory workflow, including sample collection, identification, handling, processing, testing, quality control, result interpretation, and reporting. During the laboratory tour, Dr. Ankita explained the principles and applications of molecular techniques, including Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), DNA amplification, and molecular testing for disease diagnosis and research.
The importance of biosafety, personal protective equipment, contamination control, proper biological sample handling, documentation, and quality assurance was also emphasized.
A special lecture was delivered by Dr. Narotam Sharma, a renowned molecular biology expert, who discussed the applications of molecular biology in pharmaceutical research and drug development. He highlighted research areas such as gene expression, target validation, DNA-based drug discovery, and translational research in pharmaceutical therapy. Students actively participated in discussions regarding molecular diagnostics, research opportunities, quality control, and career prospects.
Overall, the visit was highly informative and enriching, enhancing students’ practical knowledge, professional outlook, and understanding of emerging research opportunities. It also strengthened the academic Research/Innovation/Industry interface between UIPS and DNA Labs India and opened avenues for future training and research collaborations.
