The School of Agriculture, Uttaranchal University, organised a guest lecture on the topic “The Living Connection: One Health and the Future of Regenerative Agriculture” on 14th May 2026 in the Online Mode. The programme aimed to create awareness among students about sustainable agricultural practices and the growing importance of regenerative agriculture in the present scenario.
The programme began with a welcome address by Prof. (Dr.) Sharad Pandey, Director, School of Agriculture. He warmly welcomed the guest speaker, Dr. Sougata Bardhan from Tennessee State University, United States, and thanked him for taking out time from his busy schedule to interact with the students and share his valuable knowledge and experiences.
During the lecture, Dr. Bardhan discussed the urgent need for regenerative agriculture in addressing challenges related to climate change, soil degradation, and environmental pollution. He explained the importance of soil synergy and maintaining soil health through balanced soil health inputs and sustainable agricultural practices. He also highlighted how regenerative agriculture can help improve soil fertility and support long-term agricultural sustainability.
The speaker further shared insights on agroforestry practices, carbon sequestration, pollution management, and baseline soil sampling. He also referred to practices and research approaches promoted by the USDA in the field of regenerative agriculture and sustainable farming systems. The lecture helped students understand the connection between soil health, environmental sustainability, and human well-being under the concept of “One Health.”
