Uttaranchal College of Nursing, Uttaranchal University, organized the celebration of World Health Day on 7th April 2026 with the theme “Together for health." Stand with science." The program was conducted by B.Sc. Nursing 6th Semester students (Batch: 2023–2024) at Government Upper Primary School, Redapur, Charba Sahaspur, Dehradun, with the objective of promoting health awareness and preventive healthcare practices among school children.

The event was conducted under the esteemed supervision of Dr. Midu Kurian, and under the guidance of coordinators Mr. Tushar and Ms. Isha.

The programme commenced with an introduction to the significance of World Health Day and this year’s theme, emphasizing the importance of collective efforts and scientific approaches in maintaining and improving health.

As a major component of the event, the students conducted a health screening program for upper primary school children to assess their growth and development. The screening included measurement of height, weight, and Body Mass Index (BMI), along with basic developmental assessments focusing on motor skills and overall physical health. This activity helped in early identification of children who may require further medical evaluation.

To enhance awareness in an engaging manner, the students presented a Nukkad Natak highlighting the importance of healthy living, hygiene practices, and disease prevention. The performance successfully captured the attention of the children and conveyed essential health messages in a simple and relatable way.

An interactive Handwashing Dance was also performed to demonstrate the correct technique of handwashing. This activity made learning enjoyable for the children while reinforcing the importance of hand hygiene in preventing infections.

In addition, health education sessions were conducted covering topics such as balanced nutrition, personal hygiene, and healthy daily habits. The children actively participated, and their understanding was enhanced through interactive discussion. Those identified with potential health concerns were advised to seek further consultation with a healthcare professional.

The programme proved to be highly effective, benefiting both the school children and the nursing students. It provided students with valuable practical exposure in community health nursing, helping them develop skills in assessment, communication, and health education.

The event concluded successfully with the wholehearted support and cooperation of the school staff. Overall, the celebration was a meaningful initiative that promoted awareness, encouraged healthy practices, and strengthened community engagement.
