The Department of Civil Engineering at Uttaranchal Institute of Technology (UIT) conducted a Survey Skills Development Camp from 18th to 21st February 2026 at Mandu Siddh, Dehradun. Set amidst the foothills of the Himalayas, the picturesque yet demanding terrain offered students a truly immersive and rewarding field-learning experience.

During the camp, students actively participated in reconnaissance, triangulation, plane table surveying, contouring, astronomical observations, and total station operations under the guidance of Mr. Loknath Kumar, Assistant Professor, and Mr. Arvind Singh Negi, Lab Instructor. The observation of stars and planetary movements added a fascinating dimension to the practical sessions. The mixed terrain with undulating hilly landscape presented both challenges and excitement, encouraging students to apply theoretical concepts in real-world situations.

Prof. (Dr.Sumit Chaudhary, Director of UIT, inspired students to fully utilize this hands-on opportunity, while Dr. Gaurav Thakur, Head of the Civil Engineering Department, highlighted the vital role of field expertise in shaping competent professionals.

In addition to technical training, the camp nurtured teamwork, critical thinking, and adaptability, making the experience both educational and memorable. The survey camp concluded on 21st February 2026, leaving students equipped with enhanced skills, lasting memories, and a deeper appreciation for surveying across varied terrains.
