Uttaranchal Institute of Management, Uttaranchal University, organized a virtual International webinar on “Sustainable Development Goals: Opportunities for Business and Leadership” on 11 September, 2025. The webinar aimed to create awareness about the importance of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in shaping future business and leadership practices.
Dr. Najoua Zhar, International Sustainable Development expert from the American University of Beirut, was the eminent speaker. With over a decade of experience advancing the United Nations SDGs, she currently serves as an Economic Advisor and sustainable development expert at the Union of Arab Chambers (UAC) and is a Research Associate at the American University of Beirut, leading ESG initiatives and academic collaboration.
The session was inaugurated by Prof. (Dr.) Pradeep Suri, Director, UIM, emphasized that sustainable development is the need of the hour. He highlighted human consumption patterns with a striking analogy: while animals consume only what is necessary, humans, as “super animals,” often consume far beyond their needs. He urged everyone to learn from nature and adopt mindful practices.
Dr. Zhar’s lecture began by defining the Sustainable Development Goals as a framework harmonizing economic progress, social inclusion, and environmental protection to build a resilient global society. She discussed key areas like quality education, innovation, infrastructure, poverty eradication, and climate action, stressing how ethical leadership, green energy, and eco-friendly initiatives can drive change. During the interactive session, she addressed student queries, correcting misconceptions about SDGs and emphasizing that progress is not only for the present but must also involve people today in safeguarding the interests of future generations.
The webinar was organised by Mr. Devesh Chand, Assistant Professor, UIM. A vote of thanks was proposed by Prof. Dr. Tilottama Singh, HoD, UIM who appreciated Dr. Zhar’s insightful talk and encouraged students to integrate sustainability into their lives.
