The Department of Chemistry, under the aegis of the School of Applied and Life Sciences (SALS), Uttaranchal University, successfully organized a one-week workshop on “Air Sampling, Air Pollution Assessment, and Monitoring” from 25th August to 1st September, 2025.

The workshop aimed to strengthen the practical knowledge of students and promote scientific research and education in the field of air pollution. It was jointly organized by the ACS-UU International Chapter in association with Resonance Club and Eco-Club. The event was held under the guidance of Dr. Shivam Pandey, and coordinated by Dr. Paromita Mukherjee. The inaugural ceremony, anchored by Ms. Shivani Rauthan, was graced by the esteemed presence of Prof. (Dr.) Ajay Singh, Director, SALS, who shared valuable insights on the importance of addressing air pollution, monitoring, and its implications for human health to build a cleaner and healthier society. Faculty members Dr. Manvika Karnatak, Dr. Asima, and Dr. Jyoti Ramojwar also marked their presence.

Students from diverse programs, including B.Sc. Chemistry, M.Sc. Environmental Science, M.Sc. Industrial Chemistry, and M.Sc. Chemistry, participated actively. They engaged in interactive sessions, discussions, and live demonstrations focused on the challenges of real-time air pollutant sampling and monitoring. The workshop provided hands-on training in standard procedures such as reagent preparation, standardization, operation and maintenance of air samplers, analysis of collected samples, preparation of calibration standards, and spectrophotometric estimation of gaseous pollutant concentrations.

The week-long workshop not only enhanced technical skills but also created a collaborative platform for students and faculty to foster awareness, dialogue, and solutions for combating air pollution. In doing so, SALS, Uttaranchal University, once again upheld its mission of advancing scientific knowledge and promoting sustainable practices for a better future.
