The Department of Civil Engineering organized an educational visit to the Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology, Dehradun, on 12th September 2025 for B.Tech Civil Engineering second-year and third-year students, as well as M.Tech Environmental Engineering students. The students were accompanied by Mr. Loknath Kumar and Mr. Vinod Balmiki, Assistant Professors from the Department of Civil Engineering. The visit began with an interactive session conducted by the institute's experts, who presented an insightful overview of the history, mission, and ongoing research projects of the Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology. The session highlighted the significance of geological studies in the Himalayan region, focusing on tectonics, seismology, paleoclimate, and environmental geology. Following the session, students explored the Geological Museum, which displayed an extensive collection of rock samples, fossils, minerals, geological maps, and models illustrating the formation and evolution of the Himalayas. Special emphasis was placed on the geological hazards in the region, including landslides and earthquakes, and how the institute's research contributes to hazard mitigation and sustainable development in the Himalayas. The demonstration of the latest technologies gave students a deeper understanding of their real-world applications in civil engineering and earth sciences. The visit proved to be an invaluable educational experience that bridged the gap between academic knowledge and practical applications. It enriched the students' understanding of geological principles and practices, fostering a greater appreciation for the role of geology in infrastructure planning and environmental conservation.
