The Uttaranchal Institute of Technology organised an educational visit to the Survey of India, Dehradun, on 20 August 2025 for first-year B.Tech students as part of the induction programme, along with second and final-year B.Tech Civil Engineering students. The students were accompanied by Mr Loknath Kumar, Mr Ashish Pathani, Dr Alok Kumar, and Dr Narinder Kumar, Assistant Professors at the Uttaranchal Institute of Technology (UIT).
The visit commenced with an interactive session during which experts provided an overview of the history, functions, and major projects of the Survey of India. Following this, the students visited the National Survey Museum of the Geodetic & Research Branch, which showcased a wide range of surveying instruments used in various types of surveys. The session offered valuable insights into both traditional methods and modern technologies, including total stations, GPS receivers, and advanced geodetic instruments. Students also learnt about the Continuously Operating Reference Station (CORS), an essential technology for high-precision GPS surveys and geospatial mapping.
Detailed explanations in the museum were provided by Mr Sanjay Khattri, Officer Surveyor and Incharge of the Library & Museum, Mr Vikas Sinha, Officer Surveyor, and Mr Sonu Sharma, Surveyor.
